Green Lifetyles flower logo painted by Gloria BrownOur green lifestyles evening is Tuesday, July 6 from 6:30-8:30pm. We are working with the Granlibakken staff to hopefully offer locally produced Tahoe Creamery ice cream at the event.

The Green Lifestyles evening offers activities for adults and children. If you are interested in volunteering, email volunteer@familysummits.org.

  • Can you help set-up? We will set up Monday evening after the opening program is finished and Tuesday morning.

Trails and Vistas Nancy Lopez , Executive Director Learn about this Tahoe-based organization that combines a love of nature and a love of art. At their annual event, participants hike and stop for artistic performances. Get inspired to do a similar event in your home town!

Green Roofs James Sherrard, Jesse Hanlon Learn how to install a green roof. Match part of a plant with words and examples.
Green Hair Need at least one volunteer  Learn how to care for hair in a green way. Learn how to braid. 
Recycled Journals Homer Ayala, need at least one more volunteer  Take an old book, scrap paper, and create your own personal journal.  If you have an old hardback book that you're getting ready to ditch bring it along. Homer will provide extras.
 
Geo-Caching Jeff Hanlon, Rosanne Mistretta  Learn how you can do geo-caching anywhere in the world  Make leaf tokens that you can put in a geo-cache and trade for treasure.
Green Cleaning Needs two volunteers  Organize your home with storage ideas made from recycled items, including scoops from milk jugs, paper organizers, dust bunnies from old socks and a family task list from popsicle sticks. Score points for green cleaning a messy room while being timed.
Green Halloween Need at least two volunteers  Get ideas on how to make Halloween decorations and costumes from recycled materials.  Make ghost, pumpkin and black cat crafts from recycled plastic caps, plastic shopping bags and yogurt lids.
Pre-cycling Needs one volunteer

Learn what is pre-cycling and how it can save you money and trash.

Learn how to make a shopping bag from a t-shirt.

 Learn how to make a wallet from an orange juice container.
 Green Teens Janet Humphrey, needs one volunteer Does your teen need a pick-me-up? Taste some herbal teas that you can offer to help in various moments. Get other tips on how to engage teens in going green.  Taste some herbal teas to try at your next outdoor picnic or tea party.
 Green Calendar Needs one volunteer Learn how you can set green goals for your family. Plan a calendar with goals appropriate to each month.
