If you have ever attended a Summit, you know it's addictive! And many Summiteers encourage families and friends to attend the next Summit.

This page provides ideas for spreading the word about the Summits!

Meetup for the Summit

A Note from Sue Sabo, August 23, 2010

"Meetup's" are a new, easy way for people participating in a specific event to share their excitement and invite new members.

The Meetup motto is, "Do something.  Learn something.  Share something.  Change something."

This is one way to help Summiteers learn about the natural world, share our enthusiasm for the Summits, do good work as thoughtful stewards of the land, and change our world for the better! The Summit Meetup is brand new, and we would love for you to join in the fun.  The more, the merrier, and the more effective!

Join the Family Nature Summits' Meetup to start doing, learning, sharing, and changing!

Twitter Helps Spread the Word and Build Enthusiasm for the Summits!

A Note from Sara Fuller, Summiteer, August 23, 2010

Twitter is a great way for people to stay connected with friends, family, and organizations!

The Family Nature Summits Twitter account has been set up to keep our members informed about the upcoming summit, and to promote our organization to new people.  If you are new to Twitter, you can learn how Summiteers are using this tool on our "Social Media" page.

If you follow 'FamilySummits' on Twitter you will see information about the 2011 summit, as well as links to environmental articles, and retweets (tweets from other users) that may be of interest to our group!   Plus, if you see a tweet you like, retweet it for all of your followers to see, too.

We look forward to spreading the word with Twitter!

Best,

Sara Fuller

By Rosanne Mistretta

My first Summit, back in Bethel, Maine, was a complete unknown for me.  I told my family that they just had to try it, and, if we hated the experience it was only 1 week out of their lives and we never would have to go again.  So my husband and two children, ages 7 and 10 came, albeit unwillingly.  Well, of course, they LOVED it.  We were hooked.  We promptly came home and began telling our friends.  And the kids began telling their friends.

So, the following year, we had 2 couples (one with a daughter) join us in Estes Park.  THEY loved it.  So much so that they were hooked and came back the following year to St. Andrews, along with another family that we recruited.  THEY loved it.

So the following year, they ALL came back to Snowbird, Utah, and the one couple brought their parents (in their 80s).  The following year, they all came, including a friend that just loves to travel and do new things.  Then in Oregon we had yet another family come with their 3 children plus their friends who had 2 kids.  A few of these folks were at our New Year’s Eve  party this year and we all convinced 2 couples and one single friend to come, so, with fingers crossed, I think we will be up to 28 yellow scarvers that we’ve managed to recruit just by telling everyone how much we’ve enjoyed our experience and encouraging them to come.

The first Summit I attended was in Montana with my husband. We finally  had found the perfect vacation for us - active, outdoors and green. The next year we attended I was 7 months pregnant, but I still taught all week, climbing up and down the hill in Maine.

The following year we had a 9-month-old and we were worried whether we could do it alone. We convinced my parents, Carl & Gloria Brown, to come to Colorado. They had the added incentive of time with their new grand-daughter. They also had a fantastic time and have attended ever since. We made one more yellow scarfer after that - my son Russell.

Last year, we convinced our high school friends Laura & Denis Cunningham to attend with their son Michael. We get so little time together because we live far apart, but every time we get together, it's like we see each other every day. They had a great time and plan to attend a Summit again. We hope we can continue to bring lots of new Summiteers, or "yellow scarfers" to Summit.

Tell us your story about how you brought a friend to Summit. It might inspire others to bring their friends too. Send your story to info@familysummits.org.
